MID SUMMER UPDATE

ALWAYS REMEMBER

WHO NUMBER ONE IS……YOU !!!!!

This year we created four more FEMA based CERT Units in New York State. Let’s all welcome Gateway Cathedral CERT; Port Richmond CERT; Castle CERT all in Staten Island and Brooklyn South CERT in Brooklyn. This brings the CERT Units that I created since 2003 and trained to SIX.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Last year in September, 2004, during Hurricane season (June through November) Battery Park City CERT & South Beach Civic CERT were activated by FEMA to assist on Florida. Some members who took advantage of this activation were flown into Georgia, sworn in as Federal employees for two weeks, paid, trained, given FEMA identification cards and a credit card and then flown to Florida to work as FEMA Community Relation Officers.

Already this year 2005 we have seen:

·     Arlene

·     Dennis

·     Emily

For all those members that are readily available, we must all be prepared to leave at a minute’s notice in the event of any disasters requiring our immediate assistance by FEMA. Please note that there will be certain requirements in relation to health and physical agility of any team member requesting to assist in any of these disasters. Also at any given time of activation, “ Not more than 25% of any team will be included or authorized by me to go on the FEMA activation list, leaving 75% of the group at home in the event of any local community emergency.”

ADVISORY C OUNCIL

As noted by the letterhead, my corporation Operation IMPACT USA Inc. has created a subsidiary, New York CERT Advisory Council and Foundation. The purpose of this organization is to ensure that each of “ FEMA CERT Units that I created” maintains the integrity, objectives and mission of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) concept.

Once a month all five Team Chiefs and my staff will meet to discuss the functions, missions, and accomplishments of each team and ways to improve:

·       Funding

·       Advanced Training

·       Logistics

·       Events

·       Drills

·       Sharing new  ideas and missions

·       Creating the Massive Telephone Tree Between All teams

·       Creating Disaster Scenarios where “all teams” participate and function as “one” in the accomplishment of a successful mission.

·       Preparation for potential BLACKOUTS or BROWNOUTS and strategies in assisting the elderly/disabled and local police and fire units.

·       Assisting the New York City Office of Emergency Management in all community related functions and including the “All Together Now” project that they are now in partnership with.

·       We already are in the process of completing our database for all teams. In the event of a major disaster and team members are unable to get home then they can report to the nearest CERT Unit for activation to assist in that area.

SPECIAL NOTE

To all Team Chiefs and ICS Chiefs of My FEMA Units.

One of our team members forwarded what appears to be one of the

best ideas that I've seen to date

Hats Off To: Jimmy of Castleton CERT  CBCRASH@aol.Com

It goes like this:

In case of emergency - ICE

Paramedics will turn to a victim's cell phone for clues to that
person's identity. You can make their job much easier with a
simple idea that they are trying to get everyone to adopt:
ICE.

ICE stands for In Case of Emergency. If you add an entry in the
contacts list in your cell phone under
ICE, with the name and phone
number of the person that the emergency services should call on
your behalf, you can save them a lot of time and have your loved

ones contacted quickly. It only takes a few moments of your time to do.

Paramedics know what ICE means and they look for it immediately.
ICE your cell phone NOW!

Jimmy this is an excellent find. If any other of our teams find similar pieces of information then please forward to me.

SPECIAL CHILDREN ADVISORY

Another site appears to be one of the best in relation to our children’s welfare and protection. For all family members, grandparents and friends, this site is noted as

SEX OFFENDERS IN LOCAL ZIP CODE AREA

http://www.criminalcheck.com/

It lists by zip codes all sex offenders in a given area.

Amazingly, several live in my immediate area that we were

not aware of until now.
