The Federal Government is strongly urging community groups across America to organize volunteer Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT’s) to be prepared to supplement professional first-responders in the event of a national emergency.
Individuals and community groups will be trained to serve as a crucial resource capable of performing many of the emergency functions needed in the immediate post-disaster period since households and even entire neighborhoods may have to rely on their own resources to provide such functions as disaster preparedness, fire safety, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, CERT organization, and disaster counseling, etc.
Brooklyn South C.E.R.T. provides training to people in Brooklyn, New York. The course will consist of 8 training sessions (Approximately 27 hours) and will be taught by a certified Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Master Instructor
Peter A. Morici PO Box 310431 Brooklyn, NY 11231 1- 347-408-5345.
There is no charge for the course, but a training manual is required and can be printed from the FEMA website or may be purchased for the cost of printing (about $11). At the end of the course, a CERT helmet, vest, and backpack must be purchased (a group purchase will be made to reduce costs).
